A brief history of ESAB Welding

ESAB Welding was founded in the early 1900s by an innovative engineer named Oscar Kjellberg who was seeking a practical solution to a very common problem. His innovation was in producing a thickly fluxed electrode that drastically improved the quality of welded metal. The flux, as it melted during welding, provided a protective coating around the weld pool, forming a gas that shielded the molten metal from outside contaminants. The result was higher quality welds that were stronger and held up much better over time.

Flux coatings had been tried before, with some success, but these lighter coatings weren't enough to successfully improve weld quality. By using a thicker flux coating, Kjellberg was able to overcome this problem, as the heavier flux was more effective at preventing contamination from the atmosphere, and provided a protective barrier around the molten metal as it cooled and hardened.

In 1904 in Sweden, Oscar Kjellberg founded Elektriska Svetsnings-Aktiebolaget (ESAB), a company that would quickly become one of the leading welding firms in the world. In the past century, EASB has always been at the cutting edge of welding innovation and engineering, never losing sight of its mission to provide welders and all of its customers with the highest level of products and services.

Some of ESAB's many innovations in the welding industry include low-hydrogen electrodes, the stainless-steel stick electrode, and the submerged arc electrode used in TIG and MIG welding. During production, all of their welding consumables undergo thorough and rigorous physical and chemical testing, insuring reliability and quality.
